Why “No” and “Not” May Be Blocking Your Manifestations
What is a Negative Connotation?:
A negative connotation is any word or phrase that carries a negative meaning behind it. In the context of this blog, I’m also referring to statements that include words like no, not, can’t, don’t, etc.
Why You Shouldn’t Use Negative Connotations in Affirmations
One of the most common ways of manifesting is through affirmations. I talk a lot about affirmations in my blogs and have personally been using them for about 6 years now. From the beginning, I learned not to use negative connotations in my affirmations because, at the end of the day, you are still focusing on the thing you’re writing about.
This is one of the biggest mistakes people make when manifesting.
When you write things like, “I do not weigh 200lbs anymore,” “I am no longer broke,” or “I am so happy I am not single,” you are still placing your focus on the thing you don’t want. The idea behind manifestation is that the universe does not focus on the no or not - it focuses on the core feeling and subject: 200lbs, broke, single.
One place I see this often in society is with protests and signs saying “No more wars.” Of course we do not want war, I definitely do not. But if we live in an attraction-based world, constantly focusing on war may continue to keep attention and energy on it.
Instead, shifting the wording to something like “more peace” creates a completely different focus and energy. We need to speak, think, and feel love, peace, and joy if we want to attract more of those things into our lives.
How to Turn Negative Connotations Into Positive Affirmations
Let’s take the affirmations from above and reframe them:
“I do not weigh 200lbs anymore” → “I am grateful to weigh 140lbs”
“I am no longer broke” → “I am grateful to be financially abundant”
“I am so happy I am not single” → “I am grateful to be in a loving relationship”
You need to think about what your true desire or goal actually is and write it down as if it’s already true, even if it’s not yet. The more you repeat these affirmations, the more your mind becomes used to them. This helps you become a closer vibrational match to your desires, which brings you closer to actually experiencing them.
It’s easy to focus on what you don’t want, but if you constantly write down the negative version of your current reality, you may continue attracting more of it. That’s why it’s so important to understand what your true desires are and imagine what life feels like once you already have them.
Just remember: the universe does not focus on no or not. Also, think about how the statement “I do not weigh 200lbs anymore” actually makes you feel. Does it keep your attention on being 200lbs? Probably, because you are still repeating that state.
Becoming an Energetic Match to Our Desires
When we write our desires in present tense as if they have already happened, we begin becoming an energetic match to them, which is extremely important in manifestation.
Simply putting no or not in front of a situation we dislike can still keep us emotionally attached to that state. We have to learn how to shift out of that energy so we can become a match for what we truly want instead.
One of the easiest ways to do this is by imagining what life looks like once you already have your desire, acting as if it’s already yours, and thinking and writing about it in present tense.
Being an energetic match to our desires is one of the most important parts of manifesting. Once we learn that, anything feels possible.
